Assistant Expedition Leader

Courtney Cox

Courtney was never destined to live out her life in the Midwest corn fields she grew up in. A combination of summers at the lake and childhood visits to the sea hooked her imagination to living a much saltier life instead.

While studying broadcast journalism and marine science on the northeast shores of Florida, Courtney spent her time outside the classroom as crew on a 76-foot schooner. Sailing soon became much more than a college job for her—it was an obsession. She turned her focus in journalism to human interest and ocean environmental pieces. Her endeavors sparked new ideas of a career path merging her passion for storytelling with the place she loved the most—the ocean. Courtney’s visions didn’t quite align post-graduation, but she was driven and worked jobs she felt would bring her closer to what she was looking for. She lived and worked full time in Miami as a deckhand on various private yachts, while also finding time to write lifestyle columns for the prestigious Venice Magazine in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Courtney’s ties to the seafaring industry and her aspirations to communicate the marine environment led her to Lindblad in 2019, first as a deckhand, and not long after that, transitioning to expedition field staff. Courtney is now a 100-ton near coastal captain and PADI divemaster, and uses both those skillsets at work and in her daily life living in La Paz, Baja California Sur.

In her free time, she enjoys traveling, scuba diving, hiking, fishing, watersports, salsa dancing, linocut art, language lessons, writing and photography. Courtney seeks further connecting people with nature in creative meaningful ways. Her latest achievement in this has been as a published Children’s Author focusing on teaching children about plastic pollution in our oceans and how they can do their part to help.
