Jenny Adler

Dr. Jennifer Adler is an underwater photojournalist and National Geographic Grantee originally trained as a marine biologist. After graduating from Brown University, Jennifer worked at the US Geological Survey; now, she uses her expertise and background to inform her photography, telling visual stories about science and conservation. Her work has taken her all over the world—from Japan and Antarctica to Iceland and Zanzibar—where she has documented research and conservation for several organizations, including National Geographic, The Nature Conservancy, the Pulitzer Center and Vox. A cave and free diver, Jennifer has extensive photography experience in extreme underwater environments, and an ongoing theme in her work is the connection between people and water in a changing climate.

Over the course of her career, Jennifer has partnered with National Geographic on a host of projects. Her dissertation, Water’s Story, was funded in part by the National Geographic Society. Her work creating the first 360-degree virtual tour of Florida's underwater caves, as well as teaching children about freshwater, has been featured in National Geographic magazine. As a Brown University Howard Foundation Fellow, Jennifer spent the past year studying kelp forests on almost every continent. She has also received a National Geographic Storytelling Grant to document the impacts of climate change on Japanese ama free divers and kelp forests. She is represented by the National Geographic Image Collection.
