Shawn Lucas

Shawn Lucas has been part of National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions since 2009, progressing through multiple roles in shipboard and expedition operations. Over time, his work expanded to include leadership positions both above and below the waterline, reflecting his long-standing interest in outdoor exploration.

Raised in the Hudson Valley of Upstate New York, Shawn spent his early years exploring nearby forests, developing an affinity for wilderness travel. At 21, he completed a six-month, 2,167-mile thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail, an experience that shaped his commitment to long-distance trekking and remote landscapes. He later hiked the High Sierra Trail, the John Muir Trail and much of the Pacific Crest Trail, and joined a climbing expedition in the Cordillera Blanca of Peru.

Shawn studied at Paul Smith’s College in the Adirondack Mountains, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation, Adventure Travel and Ecotourism. His academic training complemented his growing experience in expedition logistics and leadership.

Today, Shawn serves as an Expedition Leader, Undersea Specialist and Naturalist. He supports voyages through operational coordination, field interpretation and underwater exploration, bringing a practical understanding of expedition travel shaped by years of hands-on experience in remote environments.
