Atun Poza provided us today a magnificent display of wildlife.  Our journey began today with one of the most iconic activities of the week: a breakfast inside of the jungle.  A three-toed sloth that was hanging on a Secropia tree gave the first surprise of the morning.  The callings and songs of different birds was heard from all over the area as we were enjoyed our jungle breakfast.  Blue and Yellow macaws were the perfect decoration of the sky as they flew above us several times.

As soon as breakfast was over, we started a skiff ride up the stream in order to find more about Atun Poza.  By exploring the riverside, we were surprised by some of the highlight species of the area: black collared hawks were found perching on trees, hoatzins made it perfect for photo opportunities, and parrots of different kinds decorated the enormous trees found by the riverside.

Once back on board Delfin II, our captain started our journey to the next destination.  Pacaya River is a mosaic of wildlife, and a comfortable skiff ride was the perfect way to begin exploration.  A combination of snowy and great egrets was spotted along the edges of the stream.  Horn screamers posed perfectly for photo opportunities as they perched on top of the bushes, and large-billed terns appeared ready to catch fish from the water’s surface.  A mixture of oriole blackbirds, white-eared jacamars, and neo-tropic cormorants painted the jungle with delightful activity.

When our journey was over, we started heading back Delfin II in our skiffs. The sky splattered with grey clouds and pink colors was the sign that tomorrow, more nature awaits discovery.
