Canopy Walkway & Nauta Caño

Walking through the canopy of the world’s largest rain forest. Kayaking in a blackwater stream with groups of monkeys overhead. Walking in the rain at night with insects, frogs, and giant snails. This is just a taste of what our day was today.

We are beginning to settle into the routine here on board. Waking up on deck, coffee in hand, with flocks of parakeets flying by. Three delicious meals with incredible local flavors including camu camu, cocona, and aguaje. Delicious! Guides with eagle eyes spotting a distant sloth that we struggle to see even after we’ve approached.

Today we added three very different ways to experience the Amazon. A canopy walkway allowed us to see the forest from a different angle. Here, we were amongst the trees, more of a participant in the forest. Kayaking, we drifted silently through the trees. Monkeys approached us, perhaps curious to us as strange beasts in their world.
And finally, walking at night. Our eyes, limiting us in the darkness, we are only able to see what is illuminated by our flashlights. Colorful and strange, a whole new world of insects emerge at night. Other oddities appear including a Common Pauraque bird and a giant snail.

We are building upon our previous experiences and learning so many new things. Discoveries abound, and as a group we share in the excitement of each new encounter.
