Drake Passage

It was a day of rest after our busy week in the Antarctic Peninsula. As we headed northwards we had time to hear interesting presentations by the staff members. Ingrid Visser talked to us about her research with Orca both in New Zealand and the Antarctic. Our undersea specialist, David Cothran, shared his video that he shot while diving on this trip. We were amazed at the diversity of marine creatures that he filmed in the frigid waters of the Antarctic. He was able to film several rare creatures and it was wonderful to share his enthusiasm. Art Cooley gave the final presentation of the day. He informed us about the mortality that the long-line fishing industry causes albatross and the different methods being used to lessen these problems.

Several pintado petrels escorted us as we sailed toward Ushuaia. During the evening we crossed the boundary of the Antarctic Convergence once again, only this time it meant that we were officially out of the Antarctic.
