Isabela & Fernandina Island
Sunrise arrived while all of us stood on the bow of our ship looking for dolphins – and suddenly there they were– our friends the common dolphins, jumping and swim as fast as they could while searching for food or just having fun. The equator volcano at Isabela islands was on our left hand side. What an amazing volcanic formation this is – green patches of vegetation among very dark lava flows. As we navigated towards our first landing site, turtles and cormorants stood waiting for us. We had the opportunity to snorkel with these creatures that are fearless of humans and relaxed less and a foot away from us.
Later in the afternoon we went to the most mysterious and youngest island of the Galápagos: Fernandina. No doubt iguanas love this place. Every step we took here was a careful endeavor, due to the fact that our path was covered with more than a thousand marine iguanas. Flightless cormorants nested nearby, and a Galápagos penguin swam around. What else we could ask for? What an amazing day here in this enchanted archipelago.
