Tortuga Bay

Another amazing day on the enchanted islands, and indeed we had a lot of fun today. There were many options for our guests. Some went to “Tortuga bay” where the white organic sandy beach is bathed with refreshing turquoise blue waters. The conditions were just perfect for our young explorers to master the art of surfing and for the rest of us to explore the sand dunes looking at some marine iguanas, which were call “imps of darkness” by a very young Charles Darwin, who visited the islands in 1835. Some of these reptiles were warming up under the sun, and some were just piled one on top of the other.

On the most protected side of the bay, some of the guests went kayaking in very flat waters and spent a lovely time there. Of course here we have mangroves which are a nursery for many species of fish and sea birds. Gilda rescued a yellow warbler, which we named the “yellow surfer.” With tenderness and patience she practiced CPR on the tiny bird, which took off from her hands without any hurry, as it probably felt much protected, and who knows, even thankful.

Some people had a lovely Zodiac ride to look at sea lions and sea birds. The light was perfect in the late afternoon, and we all came back to the Polaris dreaming for more things to come…a few guests still had some energy to explore some of the Puerto Ayora pubs.
