Glacier Bay National Park is full of surprises. It is a beautiful and dynamic place. We had wonderful sightings of birds and bears, goats and glaciers throughout the day. So we were unprepared and awestruck when we spotted an adolescent brown bear chasing a moose. For the most part, brown bears are content to slowly amble along the beach and languidly forage for food. So when this grizzly galloped from the beach into the tall shrubs, we knew something interesting was happening. Moments later, a young moose burst from the bushes and headed straight into the water. The inexperienced bear was close behind but could not hone in on its prey. As the moose swam away the bear was left in a confused and frustrated state. It was nature at its best. It was the real thing; the reason we came to the untamed state of Alaska. It left us to reflect on the uncertainty of life.
