We awoke this morning enshrouded in an impenetrable fog as we entered Glacier Bay National Park. As we approached South Marble Island the fog graciously gave way, just a bit, and we spotted Stellar’s sea lions, kittiwakes, our first puffin sightings of the trip, and the kind of light that says, this is Alaska!

The fog was a well-mannered yet constant companion today, occasionally making us guess at what lay beyond, but neatly always parting in time for us to see goats, glaciers, and of course Gloomy Knob!

At Tidewater Inlet, we were fortunate to see two groups of mountain goats totaling more than a dozen individuals, and Gloomy Knob treated us to another six or eight goats, making today the goatiest day in this naturalist's memory.

Marjorie Glacier was rumbling for much of our visit, with several very nice displays of calving!
