As soon as I stepped outside the cabin, I could feel the difference. The wind blew warm, but not oppressive. We were north of Isabela Island where the upwelling current cools the air. Just after 6:00 a.m., the first whale blows could be seen, and sperm whales entered our lives. A few very light blows suggested calves, but mostly adult females made themselves known. Two breaches were made!
The rest of the day continued in spectacular fashion: dingy rides along the coast, snorkeling, then a walk on the youngest island, Fernandina. Marine iguanas, marine turtles, sea lions, cormorants…the list goes on….
