Our expedition began by exploring one tributary of the Marañon River and one tributary of the Ucayali River. The confluence between these two is where the mighty Amazon River officially gets its name, according to Peru. We celebrated with a pisco sour toast for the beginning of a new journey at such an iconic place as the Amazon River.

From the skiffs, we admired the lush jungle. We learned of the capacity of the species to adapt to an environment of extremes, where the river’s water level can fluctuate up to ten meters between high water and low water seasons.
