We awakened aboard the National Geographic Sea Lion anchored near the Pearl Islands, where we would spend our morning. Beautiful clear skies greeted the “Early Bird” expedition landing craft cruisers as guests embarked the inflatable boats at 6:45 for an exploratory ride around Isla Mogo Mogo in search of wildlife. After breakfast, the second round of cruisers went out for their turn. Sightings around the islands included snowy egrets, oyster catcher, red-throated tiger heron, and many magnificent frigate birds.
The crew and staff set up a beach station on a gorgeous sandy beach in a protected crystal clear water cove off Isla Mogo Mogo. We brought out the kayaks, snorkel gear and stand-up paddle boards and spent a few hours playing with the water toys, swimming, beach combing, and lounging in the shade. The warm salty water was relaxing, and a slight breeze made coming out of the warmer water refreshing.
We boarded the National Geographic Sea Lion shortly before noon to begin our long trek northward. Towards the end of lunch, dolphins spotted through the dining room window drew people out on deck. This segued into siestas for many, either on deck chairs or in their cabins. Late in the afternoon our photo instructor gave a presentation on composing photographs, and at this writing we are gathering in the lounge for cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and evening recap. What a delightful day!
