Today we docked in the picturesque fishing village of Petersburg. The town has a deep Norwegian heritage and this is evident everywhere you go. From the names of the local fishing families to the colors and décor of the Sons of Norway Hall, you are reminded of the connection between the people of Petersburg and their ancestral roots in Norway. The docks are filled with fishing vessels of all sorts, seiners, long liners, and crab boats. One of the choices we have for activities here is a dockside program about the fishing industry. It is a hard and noble life these fishermen live. Another activity is a short ride across the channel to a wonderful bog with a boardwalk walkway where we can see sundews and other bog vegetation. A faux photo assignment gives some of us a chance to understand what a photographer needs to do in order to tell a story through images and for some of us, an afternoon of shopping or a pleasant bike ride is a sufficient to pass the time.
Our day is culminated by a feast of all-you-can-eat crab, excellently prepared by our kitchen staff. We delved into crab claws and legs with abandon, eating crab is not for the faint of heart.
