Our second day of exploration traveling the Caribbean coast of Colombia took us to the Bay of Cispata. From there we started our journey into the wetlands of the Zenu Valley to visit the Syrian/Lebanese influenced town of Lorica. These immigrants entered the area through the Sinu River, establishing themselves by the end of the 1800s. We visited and admired the architectural design of the main church and houses that displayed this influence. We enjoyed walking through the market brimming with a variety of handicrafts, including woven tapestries and hammocks.

In the afternoon we traveled to the town of Tuchin, recognized worldwide for its famous Colombian hat makers. We enjoyed seeing the artful process of a hat’s creation in all its stages. Of all the experiences on this Colombia and Panama journey, this is truly a highlight since we are the only expedition ship to visit this remote community.
