The upper Amazon is a splendid combination of nature, wildlife and human community. Today, we had a superb opportunity to experience this by visiting San Jorge. The day received us with a glorious sunrise that lit the forest beautifully. Once we reached the village, kids of different ages welcomed us in a very charming way. We had the opportunity to learn about their lifestyle in the jungle.
We learned about river fishing, farming, and they taught us about “kokama,” which is the original spoken language they are trying to preserve. At the end of the visit, the villagers offered us an opportunity to see the artisanal handicrafts they manufactured. Once back on board Delfin II, We started navigation to the place where the Amazon River births: the union of the Marañón and Ucayali rivers.
In the afternoon exploration took us deep into the Pacaya Samyria Reserve. By surveying Clavero Lake, we had spectacular wildlife sighting opportunities in the area. Pink river dolphins were the first surprise at the beginning of our journey into the lake. Farther up, gray river dolphins made for perfect photography moments as they were found feeding close to the river´s edge.
As we reached the farthest point of Clavero, we were surrounded by a combination of bird sounds, along with the magic coloration of the trees and flowers produced at this particular season. Black collared hawks, wattle jacanas, oriole black birds, chestnut-eared aracaris, s Expediotn. pink, as we head back to Delfin II in order to get ready for tomorrow at this particular season. Black collared haand different species of king fishers were part of the attractions that Clavero had to offer.
The afternoon activities were over once we had the colorful sunset decorating the sky with pink, as we headed back to Delfin II in order to get ready for tomorrow´s exploration.
