Our expedition to the Upper Amazon is getting closer to its finale, and today Supay Caño gave us a magical impression of wildlife. By exploring the riverside we were wowed by the impressive trees that surrounded us. The first surprise of the morning was thanks to masked crimson tanagers that were singing inside the tree branches. Capped herons with their magical color displays made for perfect photo opportunities.
Farther up stream, the presence of pygmy marmosets on the trees was something very remarkable to watch. An amalgamation of sand color nighthawks, yellow bill terns, and white winged swallows was something that made us feel like we were in an enchanted world. Our kayaking activity was enhanced by the presence of different kinds of colorful birds, and squirrel monkeys moving into the vegetation.
Once back on board Delfin II, our journey brought us to the next destination: Flor de Castaña. Our excursion into the jungle started by following a quick water stream. The corridor was decorated by the presence of scarlet-crowned barbets and crimson-crested woodpeckers. At the end of the creek, we arrived to a marvelous black water lagoon which was surrounded by many old trees.
We were inspired by the concentration of birds found in the area: white winged swallows, tui parakeets, mealy parrots, silver beak tanagers, and yellow-hooded black birds. Our journey reached its end with a marvelous sunset that painted the sky magical blue and pink colors.
