After a windy first night back out at sea, we awoke surrounded again by the open ocean. As the winds died down throughout the day, we enjoyed the views of albatross, petrels, and prions off the stern. Meanwhile, beaked whales were spotted off the bow of National Geographic Orion.
Amidst the still windy morning, National Geographic photographer Tim Laman took us to another world with a lecture and slideshow of his work photographing all 39 Birds-of-Paradise. Afternoon lectures on photography and seabird conservation gave context to all we’ve seen, experienced, and photographed at South Georgia. As we leave this diverse and remarkable island behind us, we enjoy the time at sea to reflect on all we have experienced so far, and we look ahead to the final leg of our journey.
