The DER below is from the expedition to Cuba that began on March 8, 2017.

After almost a whole week exploring Cuba during which we saw, experienced, and learned so much, a day at sea as we left Trinidad for the Isle of Youth (formally Isle of Pines) was a welcome break. The seas were calm, the weather beautiful, and it was a wonderful opportunity to spend time on deck and reminisce on the last few days.

It was also a great chance to catch up with our staff presentations: We started off, after a late and leisurely breakfast, with a presentation by photo instructor and veteran National Geographic photographer Kike Calvo, who gave us a talk on how to improve our photo techniques accompanied with beautiful examples from his years photographing Cuban life. Our presentation series continued in the afternoon with a talk on island biogeography and Cuban diversity by our naturalist Emma, followed by an overview of the last 50 years of Cuban history by our local Cuban specialist, Lazaro.
