The DER below is from the expedition to Cuba that began on March 8, 2017.

After a night at sea, we sailed through the narrow entrance to Bahia Casilda at day break. This bay was our gateway to the spectacular town of Trinidad, in the province of Sancti Spiritus, declared a World Heritage Site in 1998. Founded in the early 16th century in honour of the Holy Trinity, the city was a bridgehead for the conquest of the American continent. Its meticulously preserved 18th- and 19th-century buildings, such as the Palacio Brunet and the Palacio Cantero, were built in its days of prosperity from the sugar trade, and its colourful colonial houses and cobblestoned streets make for wonderful photo opportunities. Other highlights of the area that we visited today are the Valle de los Ingenios (Valley of the Sugar Mills), once the site of the most important sugar plantations in Cuba, and Topes de Collantes nature reserve, located high in the Escambray Mountain range.
